After a week of traveling, I’m back home once again! To be fair, I was actually home for one night (Thursday) between my work trip and my weekend road trip, but it basically feels like I’ve been away for a week.

First of all, my work trip. As I think I mentioned previously, this was the final work trip of the year (as far as I know – I don’t generally travel much for work) and it was another good one. The weather in Ontario (about an hour from LA) was great! It was definitely warm (almost 90°), but no humidity, so it felt way better than those temperatures would feel at home. Like the other work trips I’ve been on this year, we were training a group of people from stores all week (actually, two groups – one group Mon/Tue and the other Wed/Thu) and I was excited to get to see a few people I worked with in stores a loooong time ago. That’s one of the things I love about Target. The company is so large that you truly never know when you’re going to run into someone you’ve worked with in the past. And, as usual, the people I was traveling with were awesome. This is the only work trip on which I didn’t go out and do something in the area on the trip, but that’s okay. We had a great time hanging out by the pool, having dinner, and enjoying some beverages throughout the week. I will say that it was a little weird being in that part of the country at this time of year because I normally only ever go to the LA area for Gallifrey One. Because the convention hotel is right by LAX, we drove right by it in the rental car shuttle on the way there and back. If I was on my own, I would have stopped in to see the place when it’s not overtaken by 3,700+ Doctor Who fans! Oh well – I guess I’ll see it again next February. 🙂

I got back to the Twin Cities last Thursday night around 11p, went to bed almost immediately, worked on Friday (from home though, thankfully), and then was on the road with Scott to Wausau, Wisconsin by about 2p that afternoon. The journey took a little less than three hours (way easier than the nearly six hours it takes for me to drive home to Omaha) and we had a great time with Scott’s parents when we got there! We didn’t do anything special – had dinner at a good ol’ Wisconsin fish fry on Friday, grilled out with Scott’s aunt and uncle and watched Dallas Buyers Club on Saturday, and hung around the house chatting with another aunt and uncle today (Sunday) before the drive back to Minnesota. The weekend flew by! It was great to get to spend time with Scott’s parents and to meet more of his extended family while I was there. And it was really nice to not have any specific plans while we were there. Sometimes it’s nice to not have any agenda other than to hang out and relax. While I got a taste of that in Mexico, it’s not the norm for the trips I go on, so it makes a nice change of pace sometimes.

So after a fun week in California and Wisconsin, I’m happy to be home to write this blog! Over the last week, a few of my friends and I solidified our plans to head “up north” for the 4th of July weekend, so that should be fun (more on that soon). Aside from that, I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere else until this year’s Europe trip. Speaking of which, we’ll need to get some more planning for that trip done soon, now that we’re less than 90 days out from when we leave. We still need to book some of our travel between cities and we also need to solidify our day trip plans. As with previous trips, we won’t pre-plan everything, but we’ll get a few day trips sorted, especially as there are some things we know we want to hit on this trip.

More updates on the “up north” holiday weekend and Europe 2014 soon!
